I came to Hawai’i for a retreat so that I could write a book and easily snorkel during my breaks. This home was more than a place to stay; it was an astonishing sanctuary, a place where the sound of the ocean and the clarity of the air supported everything I was doing. My spouse and I loved the comfortable chairs looking out at the tidepools, and marveled at the fish swimming in the “front yard” lagoon. The space is laid out beautifully, with attention to detail that makes it harmonious. We’ve already booked for another stay here later this year. So grateful to the owners for creating this special place. In addition to how easy it was to get to great snorkeling, we enjoyed the proximity to Hilo, Pahoa, and Kapalana, our favorite places on the island when we’re not writing or visiting the fish. The only thing not perfect is if you cannot climb stairs, which you must do to get into the house. Luckily, my knees are still good enough!

Unforgettable sunrises, sea and stars! Perfect for a family of 4. Stayed here in 2011 and 2012. The listing pictures and description are accurate. What’s missing is the sense of how the house connects to the tropical outdoors with windows, decks and lanai, offering privacy, a shallow easily-entered ocean pool, and indoor and outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy. The downstairs lanai with grill, bar, fridge and table is enclosed from the wind or occasional rain and is a perfect spot for outdoor meals. Amazing fish were viewed right from the lanai – the kids were in and out of the water 10 times a day, nothing to pack or tote. The house is well equipped with linens, kitchen goods, water gear, coolers and marine atlases. The property is very well maintained; we found the local caretakers to be considerate and helpful. The location is truly “Hawaii” with trade winds, local fishermen, open ocean views, remote roads, tropical vegetation, and colorful markets. While we visited the more common sites (Mauna Kea, Hawaii Volcano National Park, painted churches and museums in Hilo and Kona) we found our best and most memorable experiences at the local farmers markets or watching thee sunrises or stars from the deck.

It’s hard to describe how beautiful the location of this home/property is…now our favorite place to go. The home delivered everything that the owners have posted. Very comfortable and plenty of room…Kitchen was great for cooking…Bedrooms were very comfortable…great downstairs entertaining area that has a small fridge and comfortable lounging area. Unique and wonderful own personal Tidepool that is literally steps off the back of the house. The water is warmer than the ocean and is stocked by an amazing diversity of fish…TRULY INCREDIBLE!

This house provides a superb base to enjoy the delights of the Eastern side of the Big Island and puts you at the centre of some spectacular scenery. Staying about half an hour’s drive from Hilo we managed to visit all of the main sights including volcano, the nearby champagne pools, the farmers’ market. We even ventured along Saddle Rd up to the observatory and up to the NE of the island to Waipio. The view from the lounge is spectacular – you can watch the waves crashing on to the rocks 70m away – and the pools transform completely as the tide gently comes in and goes out…The house is extremely clean, well equipped with everything you could possibly need – plus more! – and is very comfortable.

The house was by far the best vacation rental ever. The location is simply magical and the house allowed for complete submersion in vacation mode. It was so comfortable that we found ourselves lazing around the house for 3-4 days at a time…We were in and out of the warm water from morning until night every day for 2 weeks. The house is right on the ocean and is between 2 empty lots, so there is ample privacy. The weather is gorgeous. Sun for most of the day with showers mostly at night and in the morning. A gorgeous home in a spectacular location.

The house was amazing – the layout was very functional and very comfortable. My kids liked hanging around the kitchen island…my husband and I liked the decks to hang out and watch the water. Outdoor shower and toilet were a big hit with everyone…well-stocked from kitchen condiments to bathroom necessities…The owners communication was stellar and the way they took care of their place was amazing.

Perfect home away from home! House has lush tropics on 3 sides and wondrous ocean on the 4th…house truly has probably the best and closest view. The coral, strange colorful fish and crystal clear waters. Wow! The lagoon in front of house is perfect for small children to frolic in and for floating and relaxing. I loved every moment at this house and it really is the best location.
