Once in Hawaii, Linda was contracted by the State of Hawaii to serve as their first Marine Protected Areas Statewide Coordinator to foster greater conservation of the very most important marine ecosystems. The WaiOpae Tidepools Marine Life Conservation District at Kapoho was established during her tenure in this position.  Kirk has been active in the Vacationland Hawaii Community Association and the Kapoho Kai Water Association and served as president for both for several years.  We started the Cape Kumukahi Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3), in 2004 and completed several multi-year conservation projects for the Kapoho tidepools.  We now spend part of the year in our home in Bellingham, WA and the rest in Hawaii.  Kirk now serves as president of the Semiahmoo Marina Community Association in Blaine WA.
